army and a group of islanders led by the wife of the
Phuket governor who had just died.

Phuket has an incrediblby diverse array of nightlife
and entertainment that will amaze you during your stay
here. There are the famous pubs and bars along Patong's
Soi Bangla, the beautiful ago-go girls who will enchant
you with their beauty, the "girls" that dance
on the bars at "Soi Katoey" (who might have
previously been performing at Simon Cabaret).
Phuket has a population of 200,000. The main centers
of population are on opposite sides of the island. Phuket
Town, with a population of about 63,000, is located
on the east side and Patong Beach, whose population
varies widely depending on the time of year, is located
on the west side.
Local sightseeing tours visit Wat Chalong, one of the
biggest temples on the island, and Wat Phra Thong (Golden
Buddha Temple) in Thalang. Wat Phra Thong has a huge
"half buried Buddha" in the temple floor.
According to legend, those who try to dig it up will
die. There is also a museum of sorts beside the main
building, featuring an unusual collection of curios
and crafts on display.
