Phuket Activities: Tours, Sports and Fun

On water and on land, Phuket offers a big range of activities, sports, tours, learning courses and adventures assuring exciting holidays for all ages. In fact, with so much to do on and around Phuket, booking a longer stay may be advisable - just to give yourself time to fit it all in.

Scuba Diving

Diving is without doubt the most famous activity in Phuket. Various world-class dive sites are easily reached within shortest time and the quality of the water is unrivalled. Many dive companies are located at the West coast of Phuket, concentrated especially in Patong Beach, Karon and Kata Beach. You can choose to go to neighbouring islands each of them with its own flavour. Dive instructors are available for almost every language, check with the dive company when you book a tour. All diving equipment is available for hire.

Sailing

Enjoyed mostly at Naiharn, Patong and Kata beaches. Toppers and dinghies are available at Patong. Catamaran, Hobie Cats and Top Cats are available at Kata Beach. Thailand recently gained worldwide reputation as a paradise for skippers and adventure seekers alike. The weather conditions at Thailand's westcoast are mainly stable and assure maximum pleasure and safety while sailing the Andaman Sea. Try an adventure with the luxurious sailing yacht Meroja, a memorable experience!

Snorkelling

There are a few islands not far from Phuket that offer world class snorkelling, such as Racha Yai and Kai Nok Island. The lovely couple Mark and Claire from Coral Seekers can arrange quality speedboat trips to these locations for either half day or full day programs. They are always private trips to ensure you see the best places without the crowds.

Yachting

Phuket island is a perfect natural base for sailing. Professional yachting services and yachting facilities are available and the Andaman Sea has very good weather conditions all year and is comparable to any region in the world in this respect. Steady winds, clear skies, together with flat seas and clean, clear water allow for the finest sailing experiences. The long northeast monsoon season from November to May creates the best climate for sailing, with the best winds from November to February.

Fishing

Daily tours are available, making early morning departures and late afternoon re-turns, mostly to lesser islands to fish for Red Snappers, Rainbow Runners and other game fish.

Windsurfing

Windsurfing equipment for rent is available at most major beaches. Boards may be rented by the hour, half-day, full day or week. Check at your beach for signs.

Water Sking

Can be hired at Patong Beach. Check with the people from the speed boats. Normally the same team is also offering parachuting and banana boats.

Go-Karts

A Go-Kart speedway is available close to Phuket Town. Great fun for all the family.

Beach Volleyball

Many hotels and some locations at Patong Beach and Karon Beach have facilities for beach volleyball. Locals normally don't play before late afternoon. Just ask them if you can join.

Mountain Biking

Scenic coastlines to deep jungle paths both with amazing views over Phuket island. Many small secluded roads in the country side make Phuket a favourite spot for bicycle enthusiasts.

Horse Riding

Several horse riding clubs offer facilities for beginners and experienced riders alike. Rides in the early morning or at sunset makes just the perfect day.

Bungee Jump

Rent some courage and jump off the catapult located high above the beautiful lake. View (sense) life from a completely different angle.

Canoeing

Canoeing is available in several forms, as typical one-day tours or as more extended tours involving overnight camping on island beachs. The majority of the tours are leading to the neighbouring Phangnga Bay and Krabi, where mangrove swamps and island grottoes are accessible only by sea canoe.

Elephant Trekking

All over the island are possibilities for elephant trekking. Look along the roadside for signs or contact the tour counter in your hotel.

Camping

Camping is permitted on both Mai Khao and Nai Yang beaches in the Sirinat National Park. They are the longest beaches on Phuket and are quiet and serene, apart from the occassional landings and take offs at the nearby Phuket airport. The Park's Visitor's Center, located near the south end of Mai Khao, rents simple tents and provides some minimal facilities for campers.

Trekking

The Khao Phra Thaeo Wildlife Park offers the best trekking in Phuket with a well preserved natural environment. May through October is the best time for jungle trekking, when the forest is full of blossoms. The park has a marked hiking route for visitors to follow. Opposite to the park is the idyllic setting of Ton Sai Waterfall Forest Park which offers a wide variety of natural beauty set among green trees, watercourses and pools.

Pearl Farm

Off Phuket coast lie some of the best pearl beds in the world. Culturing rare South Sea pearls is a long and delicate process, taking years for the farmers to develop the fine skills necessary to carefully extract the pearls without harming the oysters. Naga Island offers visitors a unique opportunity to learn how this process is undertaken, study the fascinating methods of culturing, and discover for themselves whether the "priceless" pearl necklace they purchased on a Bangkok street corner is really the real thing.

Mini Golf

The mini-golf venue 'Dino Park' in Karon Beach offers an excellent play hour or two of diversion that will excite both kids and adults alike. A rumbling volcano and giant re-creations of dinosaurs are scattered around the mini-golf park, making for some interesting hazards.

Golf

Phuket has world-class golf courses some designed by renowed international architects and star golfers. The courses are set among a variety of exciting surroundings like amidst green mountains and by the deep blue sea.

Jeep Safaris

Several tour companies offer day tours through Phuket as well as into the Khao Lak National Park North of Phuket. A convinient way to discover more of the island and its nature as usually the jeeps include some off-road driving into their schedule.

Paint Ball

You can do it with 2 people or with 20, its totally up to you. Apart from the fun be prepared for a lot of sweating as you will be wearing mask and special protection gear.

Boat Parachuting

At your own risk you can go for a fly on a parachute pulled by a speedboat at Patong beach. No insurance for this fun!
